Wike Plans To Scuttle Rerun Elections Using A Faceless Group To File Case In Court

By APC Rivers

Credible information in the possession of the Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, indicates that the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike has concluded plans with a faceless group to approach a court to file a case against the Independent Electoral Commission [INEC] for scheduling the rerun elections allegedly outside of the 60 days pronounced by the Courts of Appeal in respect of the National and State Assembly rerun elections scheduled for March 19, 2016.

The APC has confirmed that the intension of Gov. Nyesom Wike is to employ the services of an unknown group to scuttle the forthcoming rerun elections in order to further create chaos in the polity.

According to the report, the unnamed faceless group being activated by Gov. Wike to embark on the exercise is expected to approach a court any moment from now to file a suit asking the court to declare as illegal the March 19 rerun elections, claiming that the date was outside of the mandatory 60 days pronounced by the Courts of Appeal.

The APC condemns this wanton act of political misbehaviour by the Governor of Rivers State. The party believes that the ripple effect of his planned action may become his waterloo despite whatever gains he may be envisaging.

The APC recalls that the several judgments given by the Election Petition Tribunals and subsequent Courts of Appeal annulled 3 Senatorial, 12 House of Representatives and 22 State Assembly seats and the Independent Electoral Commission [INEC] subsequently scheduled rerun elections for March 19.

We note that the present Rivers State House of Assembly cannot legally reconvene because it cannot form quorum in order to carry out its statutory functions of law-making, execute oversight and confirmation of appointments including that of the LGA Caretaker Chairmen and Committees, among others.

Gov. Wike must know that the APC and good people of Rivers State will not sit by and allow the present Caretaker Chairmen stay in office beyond their 3-month tenure. The APC is warning Gov.. Nyesom Wike to abandon his plan to heat up the polity through a spurious court case by a sponsored faceless group. We condemn this plot out of Wike’s bag of mischief.
