The Federation of Muslim Women's Association of Nigeria (FMWAN) has called on Traditional rulers to promote policies that will enhance child and family heath challenges in the country.

Speaking on the Topic: Amplifying the Voices of Traditional Rulers to Catalyze Policy Attention Towards Effective Child and Family Health in Nigeria, the Program Director, of the Association, Frida Yusuf Sada stated that "traditional rulers have to play in National development and in sensation of the citizens in the rural areas on unfluentials diseases".

"Because the Traditional rulers are highly respected, they are better placed to educate their subjects and expose them to the health challenges facing innocent and ignorant mothers at the community levels".

Hajia Yusuf pointed out that health challenges like pneumonia and diarrhoea, maternal mortality, malnutrition and lack of routine immunization account for the death of children and mothers especially those in the grassroot.

She further urged traditional rulers to advocate for positive change by influencing government at all levels to provide adequate funding for family planning, increase domestic budget and ensure timely release of funds for vaccines procurement as well as logistics.

Hajia Yusuf called on them to also assist Civil society groups to prevail on the government to adopt the Amocilin dispensable tablets as first line treatment for pneumonia and scale up Zinc/ORS for diarrhoea treatment as prescribed by the World Health Organisation.

In his remark,His Royal Majesty Ona of Abaji Alh. Dr. Adamu Baba Yunusa who was represented by Peyi of Garki, Alh. Dr. Usman Kupi, restated it commitment to ensure that children in the rural areas are immunized to reduce maternal mortality.

He appealed to the Federal Government to create more medical centres in the rural areas for health delivery.
