APC To Carry Out Fresh Primaries in Kogi State.

Following the death of its Kogi State Governorship Candidate, Audu Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress, APC says it will conduct a fresh primary to fill up the vacancy created by the death.

Addressing Newsmen on the party's position on the issue, the APC National Chairman, John Oyegun said the decision was reached upon receipt of a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC urging the party to name a replacement for Audu.

He however stated that the date of the primary will be communicated as soon as possible, since the supplementary election has been fixed for December 5th 2015.

Oyegun noted that the fate of Audu's Running Mate, Abiodun Faleke, Oyegun, maintained that the electors will determine it, as the party insists on being democratic with its internal affairs.

Before APC announced its plan towards fresh primaries,two stakeholders announced Tuesday that the party can name a replacement for Audu.

Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami said in Abuja that the law allows for substitution of candidates.

Also, INEC in a statement Tuesday equally said it has decided that APC be allowed to substitute its candidate after Audu’s death.

Already, INEC has fixed December 5th 2015 for the supplementary election in 91 polling units in Kogi.

Based on the results announced so far, the APC is ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party with over 40,000 votes. Incumbent Governor Idris Wada is the PDP candidate.

Meanwhile, the PDP has expressed dismay over the decisions taken INEC and the AGF.In fact, PDP on Tuesday called for the resignation of the AGF.

The opposition party said it will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to take a position on the unfolding Kogi affair.
