Wake Up Senator Akume
Senator George Akume, who is representing Benue North-West in the upper chamber of the National Assembly need to do more to gain the confidence of his people.
If in a true democracy those elected are expected to satisfy the yearning and aspirations of the electorate, then the senator seems to see the whole thing differently as the assumption here is that he is in the National Assembly since 2007, but did very little to affect the lives of his people.
It is obvious that his type sees their people as ignorant of the happenings around them, but it is suicidal for any politician to be underestimate the level of political awareness of the electorate. We acknowledge the
fact that he has been providing cash gift for some persons in his constituency.
We also acknowledge that he is not in the executive arm of government,so he cannot provide capital-intensive projects. But he can use his position to influence federal projects to his senatorial district. We know he has access to some multinational companies who
should as part of their social responsibility be executing some
projects in our communities. Benue North-west senatorial district is
one of the backward in terms of social amenities.
This is what we know other senators are doing for their people. Having
serve in the National Assembly since 2007,Senator Akume knew his
performance is definitely a far cry from our expectations. He should
remember that Benue North-West senatorial district can boast of a
number of competent and committed personalities who can give their
people the true dividends of democracy they deserve and very well take
them to the promise land.
While senator Akume should remember his colleague, senator Barnabas
Gemade who can boasts of very important and people oriented projects
like schools, roads, clinics among others. Which execution he either
influenced or is directly responsible for it,senator Akume in
comparison,has nothing to show.
Even in the senate from 2011 to 2015, Chief Barnabas Gemade as a
first time senator has sponsor 7 Bills, while Mr George Akume has just
3 Bills despite the huge constituency allowances he has received
since 2007 as a National Assembly member.
I would like his political associate,to encourage senator Akume to
change his ways and stop politics of stomach infrastructure or else
the people of Benue North-West would considered him as a fail senator.
A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE!
I rest my pen for now.
