Obiano Blows N55m On Gold Beds – A Right Of Reply

The attention of the Governor of Anambra State has been drawn to a misleading publication on the front page of The Union today (Thursday, November 19, 2015) with the title “Obiano Blows N55m on Gold Beds.”

We wish to categorically dismiss this story as a blatant lie, deliberately fabricated to embarrass the governor and distract him from his determined efforts to build a secure and prosperous state. There is no truth to this story. We urge Ndi Anambra and fellow Nigerians to disregard it.

While we recognise and uphold the freedom of the press at all times, we also wish to observe that the media in a democracy has a responsibility to uphold the truth at all times. There is no greater danger to our democracy than a mischievous press.

Nevertheless, Governor Obiano remains committed and intensely focused on his goal of building a prosperous and secure state. Already, Governor Obiano has solved the problem of insecurity, attracted over $2.4billion in investments in less than one year and is busy transforming Awka into a befitting capital city. He is determined to do more in the coming months and years and counts on the support of Ndi Anambra to achieve his plan for the state.
