Nigeria police force seek to rebrand and re-equip SARS.

In his determination to engender enduring reforms, the Inspector General of Police,IGP Solomon Arase, Friday launched what he described as a “rebranded and re-equipped Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)” in Abuja.

Arase also commended members of SARS for their unflinching loyalty and operational doggedness over the years called for a more professional and dedicated efforts at meeting global standards.

The IGP enjoined the new set of SARS operatives to be diligent and proactive in their dealings with members of the society,noting that they must eschew corruption and any unprofessional behaviour that will jeopardise public trust and confidence.

Arase also launched the newly established Nigeria Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU), which is intended to check professional misconduct and unethical practices among officers and policemen.

In his remarks during the launch at the Peacekeeping Centre, the IGP said: “Today marks another milestone in my drive to bequeath to Nigerians a reformed, responsive, operational, potent and accountable Police Force.

“It is a day that the Force is launching two critical components of policing – The rebranded, re-kitted, refocused and re-equipped Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the newly established Nigeria Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU)" he added.

Arase also emphasized on Information and Communication Technology to strengthen its accountability mechanism, a workable Complaint Response Unit (CRU) is established.

He acknowledged that the newly established CRU will act as a central ICT-driven public complaint unit that will galvanize all forms of complaints from members of the public and the positive feedback from the Police.

He said further that "this platform is a robust platform that take care of the 36 states of the federation and I can assure you that once we continue this initiative with the members of the public, it will be beneficial to citizenry ".
