Former Commissioner for Information in Imo State, Professor Owums Owuamalam has thrown his weight behind the choice of Professor Anthony Anwuka as Ministerial nominee for the state, describing him as the best choice in recent times.

Owuamalam, who made his position known to The Agenda online during a telephone interview, described the former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University as a detribalized Nigerian and an academic colossus.

The University don commented against the backdrop of petitions allegedly written against Professor Anwuka’s nomination, describing them as baseless.

“Professor Gozie Anthony Anwukah is a detribalized Nigerian, an academic colossus and a very unassuming gentleman. The insinuation that he should not be a Minister, simply because he is governor Okorocha’s inlaw is thrash because his son is an adult and is qualified to marry anyone, even President Buhari’s daughter. He made a name, even before governor Okorocha, having served in various capacities in Nigeria. The so-called government White Paper is illegal.”

Continuing, the professor of Mass Communication argued: “Anwuka is one of the best choices Buhari has made. He is a man that has all that is required to give qualitative value to education in Nigeria, if confirmed education Minister. He is a practical case of a round peg in a round hole.”

“Anwuka understands the psyche of students. As Vice Chancellor, he handled trade union issues from a humanistic approach; as Secretary to the State Government, Public Administration in Imo State was well organised. He performed well above average. He is endowed with administrative sagacity and intellectual acumen to put education and other sectors in perspective.”

“Imo people should borrow a leaf from Ekiti, where the governor endorsed his opponent to be a Minister. We must strive for qualitative representation,” he stressed.

It would be recalled that following his recommendation by Governor Rochas Okorocha and his eventual nomination by the President, about ten petitions were reported to have been filed against his candidature. The allegations centered on his alleged indictment by a government White Paper for corruption in his days as Vice Chancellor of Imo State University and his relationship with the governor by marriage.
