National Coordinator of Rebuild Nigeria Initiative -RNI, Chief Hope Rex Lawson has challenged elders of Rivers State to rise to the challenge of resolving the political conflict in the State.

Lawson, who handed down the task during an exclusive interview with The Agenda in Kaduna, Wednesday, argued that only an amicable resolution of the issues shall guarantee peace in the oil-rich state.

Lawson spoke against the backdrop of the lingering political crisis ravaging the state, especially, the recent election petition Tribunal decision, insisting that only a true and genuine reconciliation shall heal all wounds.

“Let me tell you the truth, the only thing that can guarantee sustainable peace in Rivers State is for elders of the State to step in to resolve the issues. Unfortunately, majority of the influential elder statesmen pitched their tents with one camp or the other. Most of the respected religious leaders that should have been preaching love and peace also became partisan; my worry is the likelihood of renewed violence in an event that a fresh gubernatorial election is held in the state, as all the camps are presently boiling.”

“Sincerely, my advice is that Rotimi Amaechi should be allowed to become Minister, while Nyesom Wike is allowed to continue with his tenure, so we can save Rivers people another round of ‘war’ in the name of another election.”

Stay tuned for details of the exclusive interview.
