Celebrities Launch 'Operation Fete Our Children' In South East Nigeria

The south east coalition of celebrated actors, writers and artists has commenced its maiden 'Operation Fete Our Children' in line with resolutions reached at a recent convention to make life more meaningful for vulnerable children this season.

Speaking to newsmen after an outing at Iho, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State on Friday, leader of the coalition and fast rising movie star, Chuma Mmeka said the project's last quarter 2015 mission was to reach and support a total of 2,500 poor orphans in Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia States.

Chuma Mmeka an award winning poet, author and a Coordinator with the Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Non-Governmental Organizations in Nigeria (AONN) explained that the two-month long activity involves the selection of poor orphans with promising traits in the fields of acting, writing and arts, for talent improvement schemes.

According to the charity administrator, beneficiaries are to receive adequate nutritional provisions and health support to last till year's end. He said the children would participate in star-studded awareness shows across the states to promote child's rights; and also appealed to public spirited persons for support in the laudable activity.

Humanitarians facilitating the project include screen diva Joyce Kalu and Nollywood Director Nonso Emekaekwue.
