What Good Leaders Do With Political Power

There are different kinds of power. Political power is one of them which to my mind is next in rank to spiritual power (supremacy of the Holy Trinity).

All over the world, political leaders seek the mandate of their people so as to be elected into various governmental positions to bring about development in various sectors.

The political parties play pivotal roles in the electioneering process as sponsors of candidates. Therefore the candidates and parties jointly take the blames for failure in governance.

The objectives of the parties and that of their candidates are usually similar or tailored together as contained in the parties programmes and manifestos but with slight modifications by the elected leaders who are at liberty to prioritize the implementation for the development of society.

The elected leaders are given the powers via the constitution and other enactments to enable them perform their duties without blemish.

In Europe, Asia, United Kingdom and America, political leaders have performed far better than the African Continent and elsewhere in the world for the fact that the leaders use the powers given to them to govern and efficiently manage human capital, material and financial resources for the good of all.

In Africa and indeed Nigeria, political power is yet to be used maximally to develop society. What we have experienced in the black continent especially in Nigeria is that leaders see political power as opportunity to accumulate primitive wealth for themselves, for few associates and their unborn generations.

This accounted for high level of corruption in high places in Africa and Nigeria where government resources are taking out in unspeakable quantity and starched in foreign bank accounts while the citizens live in abject poverty and degrading lifestyle.

Good leaders use political power to enrich their people and place their countries or States in economically advantaged positions.

Good leaders think only of the legacies they will live behind while in power.

Good leaders ensure that life expectancy is at an enviable percentage. The aged are loved and provided for by government.

Good leaders ensure infrastructural development and engage other foreign and local partners to attract investments and industrialization of their countries and states.

Good leaders do not loot their State or national treasuries for themselves and few cronies.

Good leaders lead nations and states to attain economic prosperity, scientific and technological advancement.

The Nigerian nation is in dare need of good leaders. Nigerians must stop at nothing to encourage and help to sustain good governance by not supporting and clamouring for those who dragged our nation 55 years backward. We need sanity in all aspects of our national life.

This is why we must support the APC government and President Muhammadu Buhari to bring about socioeconomic remodeling and prosperity to our dear country.

President Buhari is a good leader. He need the support of Nigerians and the international community to succeed.

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
