By Bayelsa Today

The Bayelsa State College of Education was not only Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education to immortalize the Niger Delta legendary hero, but relocated to Sagbama local government area and has consequently resumed for normal academic activities for 2012/2013 session with a student population of 701 and 25 programs with introduction of Theatre Arts and Music as new courses. With students and staff applauding Governor Dickson’s decision.

To this end, a theatre Hall has been constructed, and to forestall the fate that had earlier befallen it, this time around, a bill was signed into law not only for its relocation, but naming by the state governor who is a lawyer and former Attorney -General and Commissioner of Justice. The Bayelsa state college of Education has suffered policy somersault in the past that has resulted to its relocation to Agudama -Epie and later to Okpoama , the home town of Former Gov. Timipre Sylva where for over an academic session, the

college could barely admit about 50 students.
With over 200 lecturers, the students and staff were scared of the location, which was politically motivated until its relocation was revoked by the present administration of Governor Dickson who sited it in a more central upland area. Programme of Study and Courses leading to Academic Award of the National Certicate of Education A programme of study is the approved curriculum leading to a specified and named award of the National Certificate as followed by an individual student. At present, we are a growing community of about 2000 students, but which is intended to grow quite rapidly. The College Of Education has been constituted to achieve the status of Centre of Excellence in the very near future. In particular, you will experience two important aspects of our modern education. Firstly, there is much more emphasis on 'student centered learning'. This means that you will take a highly active part in your own learning and will not be a passive body to which information is fed, only to be quickly forgotten. It is expected that this will facilitate much better understanding of the topics involved and lead you to be able to develop your own ideas. Secondly, you will see that there is a major shift in the assessment regime. The over-reliance on traditional examinations has been replaced with a mixture of continuous assessment and examinations, where in many cases modules only use continuous assessment. The overall aim of the

innovative methods used in this College is to prepare you for life-long learning and to be able to stand on your feet as an entrepreneur with all confidence at the end of your course.
