Bishop Oparaojiaku Talks On Infant Baptism

By Iwuala Emperor

God-parents in Churches have been urged to ensure that the children they sponsor their baptism are trained up to become good Christians.

The Bishop of THE Diocese OF Ohaji-Egbema Rt. Rev. Chidi Oparaojiaku made this remark recently during the baptism and dedication service of Master Chibuike Emperor-Iwuala son to the former Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Imo State Barr. Emperor Iwuala at the Bishop’s Chapel St. Peter’s Cathedral Church Umuokanne Ohaji Imo State.

The out spoken cleric observed that it was because of irresponsibility of God-parents on the children they sponsor during baptism that make critics condemn infant baptism. He however, enjoined all who take responsibilities of sponsoring children during baptism to pray, care and monitor the lives of their God-Children until the children are confirmed.

Speaking shortly after the event, Barr. Iwuala who was the Director of Media in the Imo State Governorship Campaign Organisation of Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho recounted how he lost his first issue which he said nearly devastated his family some years ago. He however thanked God for blessing him with four more kids since then.

On her own side, the mother of the newly baptized Lady Chinwendu Iwuala while praising God for safe delivery of the child said that God was completely in charge of the baby from his conception till birth. She prayed for good health, long life and God’s blessings to the child and her entire family members.

One of the God-parents and former media aide to the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly Mr. Samuelson Iwuoha said that it was a great honour to him taking up the responsibility of sponsoring the child as one of the God parents promising to make sure that the child was brought up in the Christian way

The event was followed by a reception at the residence of Barr. Iwuala in New Owerri.

Many people attended the occasion including the Former Chief Press Secreatery to the Imo State Governor Mr. Henry Ekp and the Divisional Police Officer for New Owerri Police Station Sir Eric Uchegbu.
