This Shameless Peace Committee

I find it pertinent to comment again on the "Peace Committee" that recently paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. Headed by the bearded Abdulsalam Abubakar, a retired Nigerian Army general, the group was composed of traditional rulers, clergymen and the like....

It included Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Matthew Kukah, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, and Alhaji Salad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto among others.

Coming on the heels of a similar visit by Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the immediate past president of the republic to the same venue, recent release of names of holders of foreign bank accounts and notice that prosecution of oil thieves would commence in earnest, such visit didn't really come to most Nigerians as a surprise!

The said list shows up Namadi Sambo, Vice -President in the Jonathan administration as having monies in excess of 4 Billion dollars in his account at Chase Bank of New York.

Though this motley assemblage of Peace-Peddlers denied that their mission was at the behest of Ebele Jonathan, and fresh revelations indicate that crude oil in excess of one million barrels is stolen every blessed day, these "men of God" would rather discuss "peace" bereft of food or shelter for Nigerians!

As far as they are concerned, the comfort of Jonathan must take precedence over the collective comfort of all Nigerians!

We were made to know that the real goal of the visitors was to remind Buhari of his post-election "pact" with Jonathan not to probe the latter's adminiistration....

Thus in essence, the "men of peace" were at the Villa to admonish Mr President not to ruffle the national feathers! Or better put, not to stir the bee's nest!

Abdulsalam was even reported to have yelled at Mr President that "this is no more a military regime"! ...as PMB reminded him that "it cannot be business as usual"! This coming from a man who looted our treasury so ruthlessly as a military dictator speaks volumes...

Oritsejafor it was whose private jet was used to ferry illicit dollars to South Africa...so it comes as little surprise that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) president would come in handy yet again on this "peace" mission.

The surprising element is Archbishop Matthew Kukah...

It is so depressing that this band of disrupters would think little of invading the Presidential Villa to intimidate a sitting president off a noble course right there in his own territory!

Yet, as Mr President struggles to "follow due process", and as the thieves and their errand boys accuse him of moving too fast against corruption, Nigerians feel his pace is rather slow and have christined him Mr Go Slow!
