Don't usurp the functions of EFCC, PDP chieftain tells Abia group

By Okechukwu Keshi Ukegbu

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State, Mr. Pagoda Kalu has charged Save Abia Initiative for Change,SAIC, not to serve as the petitioner and at the same time prosecutor in their petition against former governor of the state, Theodore Orji to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

It will be recalled that the group had recently petitioned the anti-graft agency where it leveled allegations against Orji.

Pagoda, in a chat with newsmen charged the group to allow EFCC perform its functions, adding that it is only the anti- graft agency that is empowered by the law to convict any person charged of corruption.

According to him, the media campaign that trailed the petitions portrays the intentions of the group in a bad light.

He said that the campaign of calumny against Orji since after the petitions is painting the whole exercise as sponsored by unseen hands who want to get at the former governor at all cost.

Pagoda said that those behind the plot to pull Orji down would all fail as individuals have started puncturing some of the claims contained in the petition, stressing that it does not start and end with petitioning EFCC rather substantiating the claims against Orji.
