Keep Rivers State Clean, Obuah Charges Service Providers …Says No Contractor Will Be Punished Unjustly

By Rivers State PDP

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Bro Felix Obuah charges service providers currently handling different jobs with the Agency to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean, assuring that no contractor will be punished unjustly.

Addressing contractors handling different jobs with the Agency on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the Agency’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Bro. Obuah disclosed that over 3814 contractors have applied for various contracts with the Agency, saying they should consider themselves lucky, because a lot of others are enthusiastic of doing jobs with this Agency.

The Sole Administrator further revealed that over 95 percent of contractors were inherited by his administration from the previous government in the State and that any decision taken so far or to be taken is certainly in the interest of the State.

He emphasized that the Agency is not collecting any money for waste generated, as Rivers State government is paying for them, saying the only report he wants to receive regarding the contractors is that they are doing their job well, reiterating that he will not let any stone unturned in his quest to achieve a clean and healthy State. In doing this, he assured, “am not here to witch-hunt any contractor, but I am your partner in progress”.

While strongly condemning the attitude of some contractors who stopped working because government was changing in the month of May 2015, and that the Agency is also aware that some contractors do not have compactors and other equipments to work with, the RIWAMA Boss also announced that with effect from Saturday, August 1, 2015, Sweeping and De-silting contracts will be carried out in the various local government areas currently being covered by the Agency.

This, he explained, is to allow the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the affected Local Government Areas engage people within the locality, and who are familiar with the terrain to sweep the streets and roads, as well as clean the gutters.

He appealed to the contractors to join the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike, in his desire to keep Rivers State clean and healthy, and to return the city of Port Harcourt to its lost glory, the garden city status, by diligently doing their jobs well.

Meanwhile, Contractors at the meeting unanimously commended the Sole Administrator, Bro Felix Obuah, for what they described as transparent and open door policy as well as prompt payment of their money. They also resolved to forfeit May 2015 money, following reports and confirmation that they did not work.
