Crescent University, Abeokuta is set to obtain the operating broadcast license for its FM radio of the Department of Mass Communication. The recent visitation panel of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to the university campus confirmed the readiness of the department to procure the license for its community broadcasting.

The five-man panel which visited the institution, founded by the former judge of the world court, Prince Bola Ajibola, comprised of Mrs Pauline Ehusani ( Zonal Director, Ibadan Zone), Mr Michael Fatoki( Assistant Director), Eng. Lawrence Enyejo(Engineer), Mr Usman Dangogo( Legal Officer) and Mrs Bosede Williams( Ogun State Officer).

The visit was a response to the earlier application of the department of mass communication of the university to seek approval for its broadcast within the radius of a community radio for community relations and further training of students.

In her comments, the chair of the panel, Mrs Pauline Ehusani said

"we are impressed with what we have seen", recommending the Nigerian Broadcasting Code for the department to guide the studios operations when eventually granted the license.

She made this remark after her team was conducted to the facilities including Crescent University Press, radio studio and television studio. Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr Kola Adesina assisted by the Head of Broadcast unit, Mr Gbenga Ariba led the team into the departmental studios where a group of students also presented a live magazine programme comprising news and interviews to the delighted of the visitors.

" I have told your students to calm down, with time they will get to know more about this code", Mrs Ehusani had said wishing the university the best that the approval would be granted to commence community broadcasting.

"This is just a kind of preliminary visit to the department of mass communication of Crescent University. We are here to advise you and make recommendations", she added.

After his observations and examination of the studios, a member of the panel, Eng. Lawrence Enyjo expressed that "so far so good I am impressed with what I have seen because the personnel I saw was highly experienced and all that we have seen was up to standard. Other universities who even have license don't have what you have here".

Buttressing this point, Assistant Director and team member, Mr Michael Fatoki said "we have gone round to observe what we have seen. We advise you to keep it up. No doubt your products are highly marketable".
