SAN FRANCISCO, July 30, (THEWILL) – Former Niger Delta militant warlord, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing someone with a military background as coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Programme against those he described as ‘political jobbers’ who have been lobbying for the job.

President Buhari had few days ago named Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd), an Ijaw from Torofani, Bayelsa State, as coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in the Niger Delta.

Tompolo, in a statement by his media aide, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, on Wednesday said the appointment, which came a few days after he tried to convene a meeting of the former agitators was an indication that President Buhari was a listening leader who is ready to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta region.

“I wish to commend President Mohammadu Buhari for appointing Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd) as coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in the Niger Delta.

“This action shows that the President is a listening leader, and also demonstrates his desire to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta.

“It could be recalled that, I called a meeting of ex-agitators' leaders and other stakeholders in the Niger Delta last week, as a result of the pressure on me to intervene in the seemingly troubled Amnesty Programme due to the non payment of the stipends and allowances to beneficiaries for months now.

“And so, it gives me joy for the President to appoint a high ranking retired military gentleman to coordinate the programme rather any of the political jobbers who had advertised themselves in very negative forms in order to be appointed.

“I want to use this medium to admonish Gen. Boroh to carry out his duty effectively and always consult stakeholders so as to succeed in this assignment.

“I also want to advise him to be careful and avoid political jobbers who may come to him to politicise the programme. He should avoid partisan politics in short.

“I congratulate him and pray God Almighty to see him through in this tasking assignment,” Tompolo stated.
