Youth Organization To Host Event In Honor Of Peace day

By Sweat Peace

Lagos, Nigeria - July 16 - Galaxy 4 Peace is excited to announce their annual peace walk tagged “Sweat4Peace”, which is aimed at commemorating this year’s International Day of Peace. It is coming on the heels of the 100 Days countdown, inaugurated by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon to mark this special occasion, calling on people reaffirm their commitment to living in harmony as members of a single human family.

The International Day of Peace has been set aside, to have a unique moment to celebrate a day of peace across the globe. This day was first established in 1981 by resolution 36/67 of the United Nations General Assembly. In 2001, the General Assembly by unanimous vote adopted resolution 55/282, which established 21st September as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire.

According to Moon, this year’s commemoration, “Partnerships for Peace -- Dignity for All”, highlights the importance of cooperation in silencing guns and advancing the cause. He stressed that “without the support of: governments, civil societies, the private sector, faith-based groups and non-governmental organizations; peace will remain elusive”.

Over the next 100 days, let us stand with the millions of people across the world who are suffering the devastating effects of violence and conflict, lets us stand with our brothers and sisters affected by the insurgency in Northern Nigeria, Let us share ideas and plans for helping and supporting them in their time of dire need.

Peace is not only about stopping wars in countries. It is about recognizing the conflict in our own lives and committing to take the first action towards peaceful dialogue and reconciliation.

Speaking with newsmen, Galaxy4Peace Co-Founder, Precious Ajunwa stressed that this year’s peace-day objective is to demonstrate the importance of cooperation as people come together – a partnership to further create and advocate for a more sustaining enabling environment for a culture of peace.

She further noted that “as citizens who are conscious of the challenging times Nigeria & the world faces, we need to continue participating by taking up shared responsibilities, to wisely construct and build our collapsed environment for a better world for all. We are glad that peace still prevails, which is evident and can be felt in the numerous peace projects all over the world, despite the many difficulties and conflicts that abound andwe must confess, it doesn’t get better than this as peace-builders!

“Let's note that as we countdown to this day, one of the values of a "count-down" is to be more thoughtful and engaged in the theme, and also to showcase what peace means to us as we get closer to the day of celebration. As we plan our events and continue working for reigns of peace culture in the world over, may we continually experience Living in Peace instead of answering the question: “Is Peace Possible”? Ajunwa added.
