The chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU] Adamawa State University [ADSU] chapter Mr. Ishaku Molem, has cleared the vice chancellor of the university professor David Shall Joshua, of what he described as frivolous allegations leveled against the university helms man.

The ASUU chairman who spoke to select journalists yesterday , said that the Vice Chancellor Professor David Joshua Shall, who is only two months in office has not only started on a good note, but that he has

initiated policies that the institution’s lost glory will be soon restored.

Ishaku who challenged those that are writing petitions against the vice chancellor to present themselves before the law for the public to assess their cleanness and qualifications to occupied the offices they are holding, pointed out that the group of staff writing petitions are those that have skeletons in their cupboards and they afraid that they may be sweep out of the system inorder to restored sanity in the university.

Ishaku who traced the genesis of the crisis to the pronouncement of the Vice chancellor’s [Prof. David] statement during a meeting with the principals staff of the university that his administration will reversed all decisions that were taking that are not in conformity with the laws and rules of university practices in the country and that due process, transparency and accountability must be strictly observed by all staff of the institution.

He disclosed that some of the principal staff that were unlawfully promoted without the required qualifications or experience and those that had already involved themselves in sharp practices became jittered by the statement and started the move to remove Prof. David Shall, to enable them to continue with their normal business.

“I am not a fan of the Vice chancellor, but the truth is that those that are accusing the vice chancellor are not morally, lawfully and constitutionally qualify to remained in those offices they are presently occupying.” he said.

“They said in their petition that the vice chancellor collected N16 million for a workshop in United State [US], but they failed to mentioned that five principal officers that were to attend the seminar sheared the N16 million as their travelling allowances. The seminar was attended by the vice chancellor and one other officer the

remaining three did not go, but collected the allowances. The other officers collected money to attend a seminar in Israel, but only one person attended. So their fear now is that the vice chancellor as a

man of accountability may ask them to refund the monies, because of such fear they started the local blackmail of writing petitions”, he said.

The ASUU boss said that whoever that wants to probe the activities of the university should probe the entire principal officers of the institution in order to uncover those that are working against the development of the institution.

“The problem we are having in ADSU is that many principal officers are not properly placed in their right places, so they now see the university as not an institution forimparting knowledge, but they see it like a political party secretariat where the values of merits did not count”, he stated.

Ishaku maintained that due to the quality academic programmes the vice chancellor has started putting in place to upgrade the university academic standard, the members of ASUU have remained supportive to his

administration and will resist any attempt by a group of greedy officers to ground the institution.

The ASUU boss who advised Governor Jibrrilla umar Bindow and the university governing council to ignore the group rooting for the of the vice chancellor, pointed out that the group activities is not only to ground the institution, but to indict the present administration of backing corruption and habouring a group that is harmful to the society.
