Niger: On Civil Servants Salaries Shortfall

Civil Servants in Niger State following deduction of June's Salary have started receiving refundment alert from their respective banks.

It Should be recalled that, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello during the official opening of the 13th Niger State National Trade Fair in Minna, last week, condemned the Civil Servants salaries deduction and shortfall while describing the act as a "deliberate fraudulent action and a sabotage of his Government", while directing the Secretary to the State Government to immediately set up a panel of investigation to report back to him by Tuesday.

The Governor's action, described by many Civil Servants as "Taking the bull by the horn" has further confirmed his commitment towards a currupt free Niger. Speaking to our correspondent, Mallam Shehu Mokwa who doesn't want his ministry mentioned said "Alhamdulillah, the 18 thousand naira deducted from my salary has been refunded. Thank you to Abu Lolo for taking such a proactive stand, if he had relaxed, that is how we the masses would have suffered till 2019" he noted.

A Staff of Radio Niger who preferred to speak under anonymity lauded the proactiveness of the Governor. In his words "It is very unfortunate, how a human being can be so wicked to his fellow being. I can confidently tell you that, the salaries deduction was deliberate. Those in charge wanted to inject their own cuwa-cuwa in this new Government and if they had succeeded, it is only God that knows the untold hardship that will have fallen on us and our families" he said.

Mrs. Sarah Musa, a retired Civil Servant, commended the Governor for shielding Civil Servants from the evil claws of "Privileged Few" and enjoined him to sustain the tempo of his check and balance to all sectors of the state.

She further called on the Governor to kindly look into the SUBEB and Ministry for Local Government where Staff pension contributions in various pension schemes have not been remitted after deduction for the past 4years. "You see, it beats my imagination, how politicians play politics with lives of those who voted them in. For God sake, for the past 4years, what is being deducted as our pension is not remitted to our accounts, that is to show you how wicked and insensitive our politicians can be" she stated.
