Osun workers reject governor’s plan to pay only November, December salaries

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State chapter, on Tuesday, rejected plan by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to pay civil servants in the state last year December salary and balance of November 2014 salary, vowing to continue with their strike action.

The NLC  had in May directed civil servants in the state to proceed on an  indefinite strike action until government pay all outstanding salary areas and pensions.

But the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state governor,last week, assured that workers would be paid their salaries, urging them to resume work.

However, speaking with newsmen on Tuesday after meeting with government team led by the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the chairman of the state NLC, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, lamented that at the end of the meeting with the government representatives, only December 2014 and the balance of November same year was approved for payment.

According to him, “we appreciate the efforts of the government to see that salary and pension arrears are settled without further delay. Our negation with government is that out of eight months owed us, the minimum we can take is five months to resume work.

“With the situation as it is now, the strike continues while negotiations also continue. I appeal to all workers in the state to continue to stay at home until further notice.

“This payment is as good as no payment, because all deduction must have been made by our various bankers. Because of this, there won’t be money for us to transport ourselves to work and feed families. Until we have enough money to feed and for our transportation to work, we will not resume work.” - Nigerian Tribune.
