Fayose Won’t Execute White Elephant Projects—Govt
The Ekiti State Government has said that the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose will not spend the State’s scarce resources on execution of white elephant projects, declaring most of the unfinished projects of the immediate past All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Dr Kayode Fayemi as “wasteful spending of public fund.”
Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New
Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to claim by the APC that Governor
Fayose abandoned his predecessor's “legacy projects,” said it was
shameful that the APC Spokesperson, Taiwo Olatunbosun could gleefully
claim that the Fayemi-led government commissioned an uncompleted Oba
Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.”
He added that; “At this time that intense lobby is going on in Abuja
for appointments, Olatunbosun is definitely not doing Dr Kayode Fayemi
any good by exposing him as someone who ran a dishonest and wasteful
government.”
The APC mouthpiece, Olatunbosun had said that Oba Adejugbe Hospital
was completed and commissioned by the Fayemi administration while
contract for equipping the hospital was already awarded but Fayose on
assumption of office cancelled the contract and has abandoned the
hospital to be overgrown with weeds.
However, Olayinka said “instead of wasting the State resources on
Funmi Olayinka Civic Centre, the Fayose-led government is constructing
a benefitting edifice; Funmi Olayinka Women Development Centre, which
will have a modern library and that to us is more beneficial to the
people of Ekiti than a Civic Centre.”
Olayinka, who said the Oba Adejugbe Hospital building was still being
painted as at November 2014, added that “the Fayose-led government
will complete the project as soon as the State has the required
financial capability to do so.”
“Those who mean well for Dr Fayemi should call his attention to the
fact that Olatunbosun might be clandestinely working against his
emergence as minister by indirectly exposing his wasteful spending
when he was Ekiti State governor.
“Or how do you commission a hospital without medical equipment? Is
hospital just about structures? Isn’t that a fraud, exposure of which
can cost Dr Fayemi his ministerial ambition?
“How can a sane manager of resources borrow money to build Civic
Centre? Isn’t that a sign that Dr Fayemi mismanaged Ekiti State
economy?
“No doubt, persistent exposure of this sore aspect of his government
to the public by no other person than his party’s spokesperson is
inimical to his quest to be appointed a minister by President
Mohammadu Buhari, and it is becoming more clearer that Olatunbosun has
an agenda against Dr Fayemi,” he said.
