National Assembly of Shame: Is this the Change we voted for?

Since 1999 till date, the National Assembly senators are yet to learn their lessons than engaging in a disgraceful brawl in the floor without self-control. The recent power tussle of the ruling party (All Progressives Congress) over the choice of the National Assembly leadership by its members indicated that the party never prepared for power. For four weeks now, President Mohammadu Buhari is yet to appoint ministers into the vacant positions.

The political dice has been casted on Tinubu and Buhari since the victory of APC on March 28 and the speech made by the latter on May 29 where he said ‘I belong to everybody and belong to nobody’ also heated the polity. Even as Nigerians continued to commend Tinubu for the victory of Buhari at the last election and power tussle has become the problem of the APC where many card carriers are seeking for positions not for the progress of Nigerians.APC is not better than PDP in the sense that those that dismantled the latter at the last election with bogus publications against former President Goodluck Jonathan are reaping the fruit of evil. President Buhari is too old to rule the country at his age which political greediness is a major problem of average Nigerian politician.APC or PDP has nothing to offer Nigerians when it comes to democratic leadership excepts a new political party emerges from the centre before 2019.The brouhaha in the present 8thNational Assembly over the choice of Dr Bukola Saraki,Ike Ekeremadu and Hon Dogara and other principal officers could be traced to political agents who felt their godsons were not elected or carried along.

Again, Dr Bukola Saraki as the new senate president must not be carpeted like that even when APC had a mock election on his behalf but used some PDP senators to achieve his result. He is a voice in Kwara State and cannot be politically answerable to Tinubu in any way. The political brawl at the Benue State House of Assembly indicated that APC has no political agenda to rule Nigeria. With many promises of President Mohammadu Buhari made at the various campaign grounds and now rode to power and Nigerians expectations at the geometrical programme.

For any Nigerian to contest for the National Assembly, that means you must learn either boxing or karate to survive the situation. Electorate must start asking our elected senators constituency funds how it would be spent not using combat to deceive we us voters again. It has become a recurring decimal where senators’ fight for positions not the masses since 1999.If Nigeria must move forward in the National Assembly leadership, APC must swallow the political hiccups of the Sarakis and Dogoras.APC cannot decide the leadership of the National Assembly even when they are in majority coupled with the National Assembly constitution.

Lastly, it is time for APC to put its house in order now than allowing some elements to use the current crisis to thwart President Buhari’s second term if he performs for the masses. If corruption must be dealt with, APC politicians must not be exempted.
