Sales Of Job Vacancies In Delta State Civil Service

By A Jobless Delta Youth

Very soon in Delta State of Nigeria, the jobless and poor youths that cannot afford to buy jobs in the State Civil Service Commission will revolt against the Delta State Government.

For many years now, recruitment into the Delta State Civil Commission has been through a process of “Man know Man” and also “Outright sales” (Complete fraud). We cannot stop to wonder what sort of due process the Delta State Civil Service Commission took in recruiting into its Civil Service Commission, because in January, 2013 the Commission conducted examination for promotion of its staffs and also recruitment of fresh staffs through the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and many jobless and poor youths of Delta State bought the forms for N7,000 plus, registered and wrote the examination.

The result of the Administrative College of Nigeria (ASCON) Public Service examination held in January, 2013 has been released and all successful youths that wrote the examination are yet to be employed, and why so? “They do not have money to buy the jobs”.

Everyone was expecting that all the successful candidates would be employed into the Civil Service Commission automatically, because being successful in an examination conducted by a body as reputable as ASCON would guaranty employment, but we were all surprised when the Commission in December, 2013 advertised on their website job vacancies.

These same jobless and poor youths that were successful in the ASCON Public Service exam went on to register online with about N1, 000 for the advertised vacancies. The date for the screening test was scheduled for 22nd February 2014 but it did not hold.

On the 16th of March 2015, the Civil Service Commission released a list of 1,800 candidates on their website tagged:” Recruitment into Delta State Civil Service shortlisted candidates”. The short listed candidates were all asked to come with their credentials and two passport photographs. These shortlisted candidates went with their various certificates and also the result of the ASCON Public Service examination held in January 2013 awarded to them by the same Delta State Civil Service Commission, but still they were not employed.

We were surprise when on the 5th of June 2015, the Congress of Newly Employed Civil Servant (CNECS), Delta State chapter asked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to withdraw the suspension placed on the ongoing recruitment, giving the Governor 72 hours deadline to do so, or they take legal action against him.

We cannot stop to wonder through what sort of due process those that were given offer of employment by the Commission within 1st January 2014, to 31st May 2015 passed through. It is very crystal clear to the general public and the world at large that the whole recruitment process by the Commission is a “FRAUD”. A clear case of “Man know Man” and “Outright sales of job”.

His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa should personally look into the matter. He should ask for all the results of the ASCON Public Service examination held in January, 2013 and find out why they have not been employed and also the shortlisted candidates for recruitment on the Commission‘s website, why have the not been employed.

The Governor should look at those offered employment between 1st January 2014, to 31st May 2015 and see if it is the same people that were successful from the result of ASCON exam and also the 1,800 shortlisted candidates for recruitment on the Commission website. He will discover the great level of fraud, abuse of office and sharp practices being carried out in the Delta State Civil Service Commission.

The massive numbers of jobless and poor youths of Delta State are begging the Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa the president of Nigeria, all human right organizations, well meaning Nigerians and the world to come to their rescue. The EFCC should also investigate the huge corruption going on in the Delta State Civil Service Commission of selling of jobs that were meant for qualified jobless, poor youths before it gets out of hand, because if nothing is done and done urgently, these jobless, poor youths will revolt.
