Egungun festival, too many crimes

By Olaomo Gboluwaga

"Egungun" refers to the Yoruba masquerades connected with ancestor reverence , or to the ancestors themselves as a collective force. Masquerade are symbolic and scared to most traditional Yoruba societies. Ibadan masquerade festival had always left on its trail tears, losses, violence, bloodshed and even death in some cases. When maqurades are caught in criminal activities, then one can't but ask questions.

Recent reports from the Oyo state Police force headquarters in Ibadan has it that some masquerades were caught with part human bodies, skull, hair etc. The suspects were paraded along with a custodian of an Ibadan masquerade, known as Ogunmola Adenimodo, for allegedly destroying some vehicles at Ayeye area of Ibadan metropolis.

You then want to say what none sense!!! Is it not absurd to see elements of 'spirituality' being rubbed in criminal acts? Not however to spare other religious agents who engage in nicking people off their peace and joy all in the name of religion.
