Students under the aegis of National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies have hailed the appointment of Chairman of Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Femi Adesina, as one of the spokespersons of President Muhammad Buhari.

The Obafemi Awolowo University chapter of the association in a statement by its President, Sodiq Oyeleke and Public Relations Officer, Adebimpe Omolaso, described the appointment as encouraging.

According to the students, Adesina who is an alumnus of the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has proven his prowess beyond every reasonable doubt in the media industry.

The students added, “This goes a long way to give credence to the unswerving effort of the department and the university at large in inculcating knowledge, discipline and culture in student over the year. Mr. Adeshina an intelligentsia and strategic thinker with rare acumen is one of the numerous astute product of the department of English and literary studies.

“Therefore, judging by his colossal experience in the communication field he stands as one of the best brain capable of assisting President Buhari in hoisting the much touted flag of change.

“The entire member of the NASELS OAU chapter heartily felicitates with Mr. Femi Adesina on his recent appointment which is a manifestation of his relentless effort in sustaining the growth of objective journalism in Nigeria. The appointment of Mr. Adesina is a morale booster for Nigerian student both home and in Diaspora.”

Also, the students challenged President Buhari to further intensify his effort of appointing technocrats into his administration by further appointment of another alumnus of Department of English, OAU, Mrs. Abike Dabiri.

They argued that Dabiri has proven to the entire world, Nigeria and All Progressives Congress that she was outstanding among her contemporaries.

The English students said, “Dabiri, who is another outstanding product of our department, deserves to be appointed as a minister. We do not think that there is a better way to reward one of the exceptional products of our department than including her as one of the major actors in the present government.

“Her stupendous brilliancy can obviously be felt in the mode she has been anchoring party events. Her role in the successful primary election of her party easily comes to mind on this. If not for the success of the primary, one will wonder what the party may have become today.”
