Election Musing: Message To The Machiavelist Politicians

LAUTECH politics is getting more dangerous, bitter, ugly and messy. Amongst us, there are many machiavelist politicians that see politics as a game of chess with believe that all threats to their goals and ambitions should be eliminated, oppressed or suppressed for them to win. The recent happening in our political scenery is a pointer to this resume.

A fact has been established, which is that some of our campus political actors are ready to kill, maim and destroy each other to get their way to power. They are increasingly becoming insensitive to human feeling and life; throwing decency overboard and are ready to go to any length to get to power, even if it require taking others life.

To the political actors, you all must realize we belong to different school of thought and our ideology defers, that is why we find ourselves in different organizations but that shouldn’t make us see ourselves as enemies that should either be cast out or get rid of. We’re brothers, so I believe! This world is not against us, so we don’t have to be against each other.

Life is a journey, isn’t it? In everything we’re doing, let us remember: Life after Campus! If you because of politics today, blackmail me, stop at nothing to discredit my good name; threaten my life, attack me physically or spiritually, hit me with charms- fetish rings, ‘Aluwo’, ‘Ifunpa’, ‘Olonde’, ‘igbadi’, ‘Ibante’, and other nameless weapons; destroy my ugly/handsome face and give me scars to treat for the rest of my life; will I remember you for good? Of course, NO! You’ll definitely not be in my good book.

The journey to healing from emotional and/or physical assault is a hard one people don’t like to make. Going through so much trauma make it hard for one to forgive. If at a point in my life, you want me dead: It is a story that I’ll not hesitate to let everyone who cares to know about it and will be told from my generation to other generations. If tomorrow, I stand the chance to make a decision about important roles in your life, you think I’ll consider fairness in my resume? I have my doubt! Bear in mind that we are like rivers, still flows to meet at one point.

You all must realize that election will come and go; we’ll all leave this citadel of learning to face the reality of life. Then, you’ll be left to your deeds and your fate. And I believe, what we do today shall one day be revisited and our actions now will either help or hurt/hunt us in the nearest future. What goes around comes around! Ask yourself some salient questions: with your actions today, will you take pride in it later in the future? Will posterity judge you with fairness? Think! We all just must think.

Politics is really not a do or die thing and we shouldn’t make it so. Even the seats are not permanent, why do we have to kill one another over a position that is just temporary? Someone’s political ambition doesn’t worth the blood of anyone. You never can tell, those you’re fighting for today to hold one position or the other might stand as a clog in your wheel of progress, they might stand against you tomorrow- then, your interest might not be their interest.

And those we see as enemies today might later become our saviours; you never know what tomorrow can bring, or what it can take away. Five (5) years in this institution of learning is too short to make enemies for ourselves and there may come no chance to right our wrongs. So, why should we make enemies, get stressed over nothing and maim our fellows in the name of political support and advantage? Politics need not to be a matter of do or die.

Remember, in whatever we do, and from wherever we are, at some point we each have to account for the life we live and for what use we make of our opportunities. Then, it will be about how much love or hate and how much good or wrong we bring to others.

We’re brothers I believe, let us remain so. SHALOM!
