BEVERLY HILLS, May 29, (THEWILL) – Violence rocked the inauguration of the new governor of Adamawa State, Senator Muhammad Bindowo Jibrilla, Friday, as angry youths attacked the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Hon. Sa’ad Tahir, pelting him with sachet water and shoes.

Trouble started for Tahir, who had come to represent his former boss, ex-Gov. Bala James Ngilari, at the ceremony as a group of irate youths stormed the venue of the ceremony at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, demanding for Ngilari.

Chanting war song in Hausa language, saying Bama so, Karya ne, mash Gudu su Gudu, lokacinku ya kare, meaning “It's all lies, we don’t want you, shut up! Your time is over, PDP killed our nation, the irate youths also assaulted and vandalised the car of a serving senator, Alhaji Bello Tukur, who had to be taken away from the venue by security operatives.

The angry youths ensured that they disrupted the governor's speech being given by Tahir, alleging that all he was saying about the achievements of Ngilari was a lie. The former deputy governor had to be smuggled out of the venue as well by stern-looking security operatives as the youths kept asking for Ngilari whom they threatened to stone as well.

Calm was however restored following the intervention of some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The new governor, Bindowo, assured the people that he would run an open door policy as he lamented the backwardness of the state, adding that he was optimistic that with prayer and commitment, there will be progress.

Bindowo said: “With God on our side, we shall overcome the problems bedeviling our state. I am therefore calling on all to join hands in moving the state to greater heights.

“The APC government in Adamawa will be government for all and therefore we will meet with security operatives and other stakeholders on the need to review the ban on motorcycles riding.

“I therefore urge you to remain calm and resolute as you await the outcome of the meeting.”
