Corper Akinfolarin Akinwale Launches Civic Education Textbook For Students

It was a colourful event as stakeholders stormed the official launching of the book titled "Fundamentals of Civic Education" for senior secondary schools (Book 1) by Akinfolarin Akinwale V. on the 25th of may 2015. The event took place at Muslim Secondary School, Saki-west L.G.A in Oyo State. The event was in attendance, school principals, Nigerian Custom Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Religious leaders, student representatives of various schools.

In his speech, Corper Akinfolarin Akinwale with code no: OY/14C/0854 emphasized that for peace, unity and development of every society, the citizens needs to be properly educated not only on academic area but also on their civic life as this necessitated the book titled "Fundamentals of Civic Education" for senior secondary schools (Book 1). The book is carefully prepared in line with the new curriculum on Civic Education which is part of the compulsory subjects at the upper basic level of education as specified in the new policy on education of 9- 3 -4 system of schooling.

Stakeholders said teachers, students, parents and the government will find the book valuable and fundamental in promoting the civic activities in the learner and every individual in modern societies. According to the author, the book has twelve chapters treating the basic topics as prescribed by the Federal Ministry of Education for SS.1 class syllabus. At the end of every section, formative evaluation questions have also been included to help teachers test the students’ level of performance.

"Fundamentals of Civic Education is also useful and recommended as seminar and workshop resource material for sensitization as it contains impactful topics like HIV and AIDS, Fundamental Human Rights and Duties, Representative Democracy, Effect of Cultism, Youth Empowerment among others." The book was also recommended by a prominent professor of educational administration and planning Prof. Uche G. Emetarom and other notable personalities. The author appreciates all individuals and groups that contributed to the success of the book and also posits that "Irrespective of certificates and honours, functionality of education in all ramifications (even civic life) is highly imperative for societal advancement."
