The resounding landslide victory of the all progressive congress (APC) in Nigeria is great news for Nigeria’s democracy and its citizens. Nigerian voters have once again reinforced the image of voters who not only surprise but also stun in the way they choose their representatives and government. For too long Nigeria’s political cauldron was mired in sleaze, graft, class, caste and a degree of religion based politics. March 28, 2015 was a watershed day when Nigerians voted for development and rejected doles and handouts. March 28, 2015 marks the day when voters have exercised their democratic rights by not only rising above these divisions in an extremely diverse country, bidding adieu to the class, caste divide. Nigeria with its continuing tryst with democracy reflects the benefits of peace and people participation despite its problems of a huge population, abject poverty and extreme religious diversity, as a sure shot and substantive way forward for peaceful co-existence between communities, despite the odd niggling problems, for the larger benefit of society and communities.

Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and we have set one of the best standard for other African countries to follow. As we rejoice this moment in our country history there are people Nigerians must never forgot. This people fought for true federalism, not minding their religion or tribe, risking all they had for the survival of democracy. Rotimi Amaechi, was a rare bride in the 2015 general election. His role and stand against impunity will never be forgotten. He served as a unifying factor between the north and south, his bravo and struggle for a better Nigeria will remain on the lips of many for a very long time. Bola Ahmed Tinubu aka Jagaban, he was the engine and driving force behind APC. To so many Nigerians he is the specialist and the dethroner of the PDP led government. His commitment and support help ensure the voice of the people count, even when hope seems lost, Jagaban assured Nigerians of victory come March 28, 2015. Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, was a beauty to democracy, not afraid of the heavyweight in APC presidential election he also join them in proving a point, that Nigeia belong to us all. Despite coming last in the APC presidential primary he still remain faithful to the aspiration of the party. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a man who delivered almost a 100% votes from his state can never be forgotten in the history of our nation. Rochas Okorocha, the only surviving APC governor in the southeast, he will be remembered for his vibrancy and ruggedness. Abike Dabiri, the iron lady in fold of APC, she is intelligent and voice for the Nigerian women. Aishat Alubankudi, a social media crusader who helped use the social media to galvanize for the change mission. She was a delight to many of her social media friends, who believe on her change mission. Omoyele Sowore owner and founder of SaharaReporters, his online news media outfit help expose the in-depth corruption in the Nigeria government. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, another icon, who stood on the side of Nigerians against a very corrupt government. Comrade Ahmed Omeiza Lukman, Ukraine based activist who sent a shocking letter to the president on Feb 15, 2015 af the postponement of the general election. He will be remembered as one who fought for an ideology not minding the consequence.

Why is it important to remember this living legend? It was the first time that the Nigeria people decided to take a decisive action on moral grounds. It was the first time that Nigeria conducted an election that met the aspiration of the people. It was the first time that Nigeria handled pressure from the cabals and the unfriendly Nigeria military. GMB must deliver on his campaign promise, so that the effort of Nigerians will not be in vain.
