Ebonyi workers demand unpaid salaries from Governor Elechi

Three years after labour induced nation wide strike, some local government employees in Ebonyi state, Nigeria are yet to be paid their salaries.

The workers have made passionate appeal to the out-going Governor, Martin Elechi to pay their September 2011 salaries. The appeal was made by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) in the state through a statement issued on Wednesday in Abakiliki, the state capital.

According to the statement which was signed by Mr. Leonard Nkah, president NULGE in Ebonyi state, said that 7,000 local government employees who participated in the nation wide strike called by Nigeria Labour Congress have not been paid their salaries as the Governor is bent on implementing the ‘no work no pay’ rule.

The union had earlier demonstrated in the state capital on Friday, May 22,2015 on the same issue. Nkah lamented that aside the salaries being owed the affected employees, the local government workers are yet to receive their April, 2015 salaries. He described the situation as unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the Joint Account Allocation Committee(JAAC), has washed its hands off the matter, saying that any local government\development centres still owing workers salary should be held responsible as funds for such has been released, the statement added.
