Boko Haram Kills 43 In Fresh Borno Attack

SAN FRANCISCO, May 26, (THEWILL) –  Rampaging Boko Haram gunmen weekend killed no fewer than 43 persons in a fresh attack on Gubio, a village in Borno State.

Local sources disclosed to THEWILL that the rampaging gunmen stormed the village in about six vehicles, shooting sporadically and destroying both private and public buildings, including a local INEC office.

The villagers, who disclosed this when the state governor, Kashim Shettima, visited the village on Tuesday, lamented that the insurgents came at a time the military guarding the area were carrying out counter-insurgency operation to dislodge Boko Haram from their camps.

The gunmen were said to have arrived the village at about 4.30pm on Saturday, shooting and killing as residents scampered for safety.

Giving an account of the attack, a local vigilante member, Idris,said the insurgents opened fire on the residents, killing 43 persons.

Idris disclosed that over 500 houses, many vehicles and motorcycles were destroyed by the insurgents who also made away with food items.

His disclosure came as a local vigilante leader in the village, Bukar Mandama, said five of the insurgents were however killed.
