Haliru Bello Appointed Acting Chairman, PDP

SAN FRANCISCO, May 25, (THEWILL) –  Dr. Haliru Mohammed Bello, a former National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Minister of Defence, was Monday night appointed Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Board of Trustees of party, in its first meeting since the party's defeat at the last general elections.

The BoT met inside the Presidential Villa on Monday night with President Goodluck Jonathan in attendance.

The Kebbi State born career politician is expected to lead the party until its next convention sometime in 2016 following the resignation of Dr. Adamu Mu'azu, who resigned due to the party's poor showing in the polls.

Also, President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to become the party's BoT chairman when his presidency ends on May 29, 2015. Incumbent BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, who also resigned last week, said he was doing so to allow the President lead the board.
