SAN FRANCISCO, May 25, (THEWILL) –  The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Monday that the total number of inmates at the Yola special camp for women and children rescued from Boko enclave in the Sambisa Forest has risen to 308.

The North East Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, who disclosed this in a media chat in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said out of the 40 persons freed by the military from Sambisa Forest, 20 were children and 13 women.

According to the NEMA chief, the women and children totaling 33 were transported to the Molkohi camp in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, where psycho-social activities and counseling are being given for the freed women and children.

Kanar disclosed that the latest addition will bring the total number to 308 as 275 persons had earlier been resetled at the facilities.

This disclosure came as NEMA said it has deployed more staff to assist in meeting the challenges facing the agency in Borno State due to the influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) on a daily basis..

Kanar also disclosed that NEMA has started a weekly distribution of relief materials at the IDPs camps in Maiduguri, adding that the programme was officially inaugurated by the state deputy governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, on Monday.
