I Will Remain In PDP, Says Wike

BEVERLY HILLS, May 24, (THEWILL) –  Rivers State Governor-Elect, Barrister Nyesom Wike has declared that he would exercise his mandate as governor under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ).

He said there is no truth in the rumour that he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress ( APC ).

Wike made the declaration while chatting with journalists after the Dedication Service for his forthcoming inauguration at the St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

“ I have no plans to defect to the APC. I will serve the people of the State under the platform of PDP,” he said..

Wike said as a committed party man, he would diligently execute programmes contained in the PDP manifesto.

During the Church Service, Wike who read the first lesson from Joel Chapter 2, assured that his administration, working with God’s guidance, would restore Rivers State and ensure that the people's standard of living is improved.

In his sermon, Archbishop of the Province of the Niger Delta, Most Reverend Ignatius Kattey, urged the incoming governor to be a father to all the people of the State.

He appealed to the governor-elect to rebuild Rivers State and commit himself to executing policies that will reduce poverty in the state.

He said: “ The governor-elect after his inauguration should be a father to all. He should ensure that the poor are taken care of, especially the widows.”

The event was marked by prayers for Nigeria, Rivers State, the governor-elect, his deputy and the sustenance of democracy in the country.
