7 Killed, 27 Injured As Female Suicide Bomber Rocks Damaturu

SAN FRANCISCO, May 16, (THEWILL) – A female suicide bomber rocked Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, Saturday, killing six persons and injuring 27 others in an attack that also claimed the life of the bomber.

The bomber struck in the morning hours as she detonated the Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) she was carrying right at the gate of the Damaturu central motor park, which shares border with a popular market, which is a beehive of commercial activities.

According to an eyewitness, Abubakar Idris, the female suicide bomber arrived the entrance to the motor park around 11:45am and detonated the IEDs as she approached the security point.

Many of the injured and remains of those killed THEWILL gathered have been taken to the Damaturu Specialist Hospital.

The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Garba Musa Fika, confirmed to THEWILL that some injured persons were brought to the hospital from the scene of the blast.

According to him, of the 34 brought to the hospital, seven were confirmed dead while 27 were still receiving treatment, with seven critically injured.

When the state governor , Ibrahim Gaidam, visited the hospital to sympathise with the victims, he condemned the attack, saying his administration would foot the bill for treating the injured.
