SAN FRANCISCO, May 10, (THEWILL) – The orgy of violence visited by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before, during and after the last general elections seems not to have abated yet with the recent attempt on the life of a staunch APC member, Godswill Jumbo, allegedly by his erstwhile boss and Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru.

Jumbo who narrated his ordeal to a group of journalists weekend in Port Harcourt, the state capital, alleged that at about 10.pm on Friday, May 8, some suspected hoodlums led by the Chief Security Detail to the Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, Abu Steve, accompanied by the security detail, to his wife, Mina Ikuru, Peter Obidigbo, both operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) stormed his residence at Flat 10, Unity Estate, Obi Wali Road, Rumuigbo in Port Harcourt, and unleashed mayhem on him and his family.

The badly battered Jumbo alleged that in a gestapo-fashion operation, they barged into his house, dragged him out in his undies and descended on him with blows, guns and other dangerous weapons.

He added that while his men were dealing with him outside, Abu Steve, and others ransacked his house searching for God-knows what.

In the course of their beating, kicking and hitting him with butt of their guns they told him that his political views expressed in different media platforms were annoying their boss and making his new sojourners in the PDP wary of him.

That they couldn’t understand how his former spokesman could be so outspoken against the party.

He said when they finished, they dumped him in the trunk of their car and drove off into the night at about 10.30pm.

According to Jumbo, they took him to an unknown forest where they brought him out marched him into the bush and were about to execute him before some disagreement ensued amongst the said hoodlums as some of them opted out of the assassination plan instead insisting that he should be handed over to the Police on trumped-up charges.

After a few minutes of heated argument they decided for the latter option and threw him back into the car trunk and sped off.

Jumbo said at about 11pm, they brought him to the Old GRA Police Station and asked that he be detained on the allegation that he stole government vehicle.

But upon interrogation by the Police, they admitted that the car in question, a Toyota Corolla 2008 model, was his assigned official car but he had failed to return it after he was relieved of his appointment.

Speaking further, he said curiously, Abu Steve and his accomplice in crime, Peter Obidigbo, couldn’t explain to the Police the wounds sustained by him (Jumbo), adding that though they admitted that they met him in his house and also took away the car from his well-known residence.

“More curious was the fact that they insisted that instead of being taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, Abu Steve, insisted that he be detained in that state of health that it was the Deputy Governor’s directive that he be detained indefinitely without any form of medical attention and against the fact that his fundamental human rights has been greatly violated,” he said.

According to him, by the morning of Saturday, May 9, the Commissioner of Police having being alerted the previous night of his abduction, had demanded to know the details of the matter, but unfortunately the said Abu Steve, his partner in crime, Peter Obidigbo, and their paymaster and mentor in crime, Tele Ikuru, was nowhere to be found to assist the Police with the details of the crime allegedly committed by Jumbo.

Several calls to their lines were rejected leaving the Police with no other option than to release him.

“What is more intriguing about the whole saga is how such violence could be meted out to an innocent unarmed citizen whose only offence was holding a different political opinion from that of his former boss.

“That someone occupying such an exalted office could descend so low as to abduct and attempt to assassinate an innocent young man just because he opted to belong to a political party of his choice,” he said.

He therefore appealed to the security agencies, especially the SSS, to sanction its men, Abu Steve and Peter Obidigbo, and hold them responsible should anything untoward happen to him as they allegedly threatened to shoot him anywhere they find him should they hear him say anything again against the PDP.

“That security personnel trained, equipped and paid from taxpayers money could become willing tools in the hands of irate and irresponsible politicians raises serious concerns as to the safety and security of the lives and properties of citizens,” he said.
