BUHARI, LET'S CURB THE CORRUPTION OF GOVERNMENT VEHICLES

Source: thewillnigeria.com

In recent years, government-run public hospitals, schools, offices, houses and other assets have been undermanaged and mismanaged, and this situation is perhaps most obvious with government-issued cars that are in a perpetual state of abuse, misuse and exploitation.

Over the years, the treatment of government property,  specifically official cars and other government vehicles, has been marked by waste and abandonment with thousands of them apparently missing or converted into personal use by active, former or retired officials and other workers.

With the severe lack of management surrounding these vehicles owned and operated by the government, the issue of investigating, recovering, locating and accounting for many of them has become all too critical at this time.

It is not unusual to find neglected government-issued cars outside of neglected government-issued residences or empty and abandoned government houses, as well as outside the private homes of retired, sacked or long-dead government officials and workers across the cities and villages.

The number of abandoned and missing cars is likely to be escalating and unquestionably need to be addressed by this incoming administration.

With our  known shoddy record keeping along with everything else, government employees are using official vehicles after-hours for personal use and as taxis. With the cost of fuel continuously expanding and the government not having a good handle on the management of its vehicles, things are getting worse each day.

We cannot continue like this! As such, we must develop a management plan for all government and state-issued cars, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, helicopters and others.

We must seek out monies, inventories, assets, loans and funds as they relate to damaged, lost or misappropriated government-owned vehicles.

We must require the development of policies and procedures regarding increased vehicle use, reduce maintenance expense and abuse, and fully improve the overall operating efficiency of all government vehicles and rides now and for the future.
