Aviation minister fires newly-appointed FAAN director

Minister of Aviation Osita Chidoka has fired newly appointed Director of Finance and Account of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, on the strength of a petition written by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN).

Reports indicate that the minister was forced has forced the Minister to sack the director   As a result of irregularities in his appointment.

ATSSSAN had  afortnight ago drawn  the attention of concerned authorities to Uchendu's appointment and described it as illegal, as the later was still holding another job, while working as a Director of Finance in FAAN.

The union had in a petition to the Head of Service of the Federation on March 23, 2015, claimed that Uchendu is a director in the company owned by the minister, Consumer Investment Limited.

The reports further indicated that the petition had alleged the director might not be able to discharge his duties without fear or favour as he would have to contend with conflict of interests because of his ownership as a board member of Consumer Investment Limited, a company which the wife of the minister is also a serving Director.

A letter addressed to the sacked director, bearing the letterhead of the Ministry of Aviation and signed by the Director of Human Resources Management in the ministry, A.A Tsafe, This Day reports, asked Tochukwu Uchendu to vacate the office until the due process is concluded and a formal letter of appointment issued to him.
