Jonathan Appoints Peter Obi Chair Of SEC, Gwarzo Confirmed As DG, NHIS Boss Fired

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27, (THEWILL) – President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the confirmation of Mr. Mounir Haliru Gwarzo as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a presidency statement said Monday.

Mr. Gwarzo, who has been acting as Director-General of the Commission, was appointed to the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission as Executive Commissioner in January, 2013.

The President also approved the appointment of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi as Chairman SEC, the statement said, adding that President Jonathan also relieved the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Femi Thomas of his appointment with immediate effect.

The statement also announced the appointment of Mr. Olufemi A. Akingbade as Acting Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the NHIS.

Mr. Akingbade who hails from Ekiti State and holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science as well as a Masters in Business Administration was the General Manager, ICT in the NHIS until his new appointment, the statement further stated.
