Message To The People Of Sierra Leone On 54th Anniversary Of National Independence And Democratic Self-Rule

By SANKOH ALIMAMY BAKARR

On Monday 27th April, 2015 Sierra Leone would mark 54 years of national independence and democratic self-rule. Indeed, this year’s anniversary is full of tribute and praise to the memory of those citizens who have died as a result of the diabolic Ebola epidemic in the country.

It is with great delight that the Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity (HCIF-PFS) extends to all Sierra Leoneans peace, friendship and solidarity as they mark 54th national independence and democratic self-rule. We wholeheartedly congratulate President Ernest Bai Koroma, members of Government, Parliamentarians, Councilors, traditional rulers, the security forces, health workers, teachers, students, civil society organizations, the NGO community and volunteers for the collective efforts to eradicate the dreadful disease and make Sierra Leone Ebola free.

What Sierra Leone can be proud of as the nursing mother of West African civilization is the fact that in spite of many challenges and crises due to the devastating effect of the Ebola epidemic, the country continues to nurture peace and democratic culture. Therefore, on this occasion of national importance, we convey our sincere gratitude to the founding fathers and mothers whom the Merciful God has called, for their valuable contribution towards the freedom of Sierra Leone from servitude 54 years ago.

On this day, it is our prayer that the Sierra Leonean leaders will continue to emulate the spirit of sacrifice, patriotism and commitment to the good of all Sierra Leoneans. We urge every Sierra Leonean at home and abroad to eschew all activities that are at variance with peace and democracy, and join hands in the fight against the Ebola epidemic, which has killed over three thousand people across the length and breadth of the country; destroying the economy of the country and rob off the citizenry of dignity.

We had earlier planned to mark Sierra Leone’s 54th national independence and democratic self-rule with the official launching of our country project dubbed: “The SIERRA LEONEAN REALITY PROJECT”, for improving agriculture productivity; employment creation and rural economic development. This has been rob-off by our active participation in the collective efforts to kick Ebola out of the country. We assure Sierra Leoneans of our continued efforts and commitment to help their country out of the current Ebola epidemic; and to help prepare Sierra Leone to overcome the challenges ahead.

Concluding, we urge all Sierra Leoneans not to forget that the purpose of their collective efforts is to move on the path of sustainable development for prosperity.

Happy Independence Day to all Sierra Leoneans!
God Bless Sierra Leone!
