Boko Haram adopts new name

The deadly Islamist insurgent group Boko Haram has reportedly adopted a new name.

The group, which earlier in the year sought alliance with its Arabic counterpart ISIS, released new photos of its members and announced its new name as the   'Islamic State in West Africa'.

The blood-testy, daredevil insurgents, which have ravaged Northeastern Nigeria for the past six years appears to be fascinated by the fatalistic approach of the Islam State of Iraq and Syria, which encourages mindless beheading and mass killings and other abominable acts.

Boko Haram until a few weeks ago was in control of 14 local governments in Borno, where they had hoisted their flag and proclaimed a caliphate, just like their ISIS  senior brother did in Syria and Iraq.

But a heavy onslaught by Nigerian military, greatly helped by soldiers from neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroun, has driven the insurgents out of most of those locations

At the last count, the troops had entered the Sambisa Forest long seen as the bastion of the group’s operations and are fighting to liberate it.
