The people of Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State have described Governor Godswill Akpabio as a sincere and upright leader whose patriotism and commitment have accounted for the massive transformation witnessed in the State in the last eight years.

Under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Leaders Forum, they popped bottles of champagne, sang praises to God and extolled the virtues of Governor Akpabio during what they described as a thank you visit to the Governor in his office.

The leader of the delegation and former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Rt Honourable (Chief) Nduese Essien recalled that the zoning of the governorship slot to Eket Senatorial District came after a town hall meeting between the State Governor, his political party with stakeholders in each of the ten Federal Constituencies of the State.

Chief Essien averred that Governor Akpabio on realizing that the people of the State rooted strongly for power-shift to Eket Senatorial District decided to support and encourage the decision of the people that the district which had never produced a governor since creation of the State in 1987, be supported to produce the next governor in 2015.

The two-term lawmaker described Akpabio as “a good pilot, sound administrator and a straightforward person” and commended him for being firm in his decision despite pockets of resistance and verbal attacks on his person by self-seeking politicians.

He debunked accusations that there was no governorship election in the State on April 11 as peddled by some persons and called on aggrieved persons to join hands with the governor-elect in moving the State forward.

Chief Essien asserted that with the agreement on zoning, the track record of achievements and God-fearing disposition of the candidate, as well as a firmly rooted political platform such as PDP, it was not surprising that the people came all out to support and vote for Mr Udom Emmanuel.
