Leaders in Eket Senatorial District have condemned the persistent cry for the cancellation of the April 11, 2015 governorship election by some aggrieved politicians in Akwa Ibom state, describing them as bad losers.

Coming under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Leaders Forum, the political heavyweights warned that the call by few opposition elders in the state for the cancellation of the election in the state was borne out of selfishness, hypocrisy and greed.

Speaking at a media briefing in Uyo, the state capital, their leader, a two-term Federal House of Representative member and a former minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien stated that “clearly there was no way the Wolf-criers would have won as Akwa Ibom is predominantly PDP state for sixteen years”

The situation is worse in Akwa Ibom as the opposition, he maintained, “has elevated its campaign of mischievousness and mendacity to feverish proportions.”

Contrary to what APC chieftains want people to believe, the Eket leaders alleged that there were clear evidences of the plots by the opposition leaders and supporters in the State to foment trouble and rubbish the outcome of the elections, adding that without any foundation, no miracle would have enabled the opposition to win election in the State in the next four years.

Chief Essien asserted that from the results in the March 28 election in which all the PDP candidates were elected as federal lawmakers, it was obvious to the APC that they stood no chance in the governorship, and so they decided “to use all available instruments of confusion and violence to destabilize the electoral process.”

He noted that the Governor-Elect, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has a rich carrier background in public and private sector and which is what has endeared him to everyone in the State.

“The fundamentals of our gubernatorial Candidate (now governor-elect) coupled with his carrier background and charisma mesmerized our supporters and indeed the entire electorate into the massive support that is now the envy of the opposition”.

He commended the people for standing by the truth and ensuring that power comes to Eket Senatorial district, “specifically I want to thank you for the individual and collective reportage of our agitation for the governorship of Akwa Ibom State to come to Eket senatorial District”.

According to him, “as a political party, PDP has shown unqualified maturity by conceding defeat in many states of the federation where we lost to the opposition despite clear evidences of widespread irregularities in those states.

He furthered that, “we are aware and indeed have evidence of how millions of underage voters were recruited and coerced to vote in favor of the opposition”.

He commended President Jonathan for shaming “doomsday prophets and critics who doubt our ability as a people to build a strong and viable democratic system.

The former minister condemned in strong terms the partisan stance of the foreign observers who saw nothing wrong in the underage voting and massive riggings reported in the north and urged the media to always ensure that they promote objectivity at all times.

Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Akon Eyakenyie, Deputy Director General of Udom/Moses Campaigns Elder Ben Udobia, present, past and incoming public office holders from the district and party officials were among those in attendance.
