Group To APC: Stop Disparaging Afe Babalola, Others

By Tunji Oluwasanmi

The Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against disparaging the Ekiti born legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) and other prominent sons and daughters of Ekiti State, including traditional rulers.

The group, in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by by its

National Coordinator, Mr Gbenga Babawibe, described the statement

credited to a group, Ekiti Youths Vanguard (EYV) that Afe Babalola was

aiding impunity in Ekiti State as an insult, not only to Aare Afe

Babalola, but to the entire people of the state who hold the legal

icon in very high esteem.
EJG said it was miffed that the offensive and insulting press

statement sponsored by the APC against Afe Babalola was published by

Upshot Reports, an online newspaper owned by Dr Kayode Fayemi's former

Spokesperson, Mojeed Jamiu.
Afe Babalola had written a letter to the impeached former Speaker of

the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, urging him to

embrace peace in the state.
The APC responded to the letter with a statement by its Spokesperson,

Taiwo Olatubosun but credited to Ekiti Youths Vanguard, accusing Afe

Babalola of aiding impunity in Ekiti State.
In its reaction, EJG said; "Enough is enough. These APC people should

stop disparaging our leaders in Ekiti.
"That's the way they went to Ibadan on May 22, 2007 to circulate

offensive leaflets in front of Afe Babalola Chamber.

"They wrote in the leaflets then; 'If you feel the best way to end

your life is to go unsung, Ekiti people will surely assist your

desire'.
"Must these characters in the APC always disparage our leaders in

Ekiti whenever they lose power?
"This unprogresssive attitude of the APC must stop. The other time,

they accused our traditional rulers of collecting N150,000 bribe to

welcome President Goodluck Jonathan in Ile-Ife, Osun State."
