BEVERLY HILLS, April 17, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he would not be distracted by what he called the Rivers APC's horrible delusion and the desperate design to force falsehood down the throats of Nigerians.

Advising the APC in the state to concede defeat and accept that the state is already moving on , Wike, in a statement issued Friday by his Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said: “It is disheartening that the entire leadership of Rivers APC, outgoing Governor Rotimi Amaechi and their defeated governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, are running riot in the marketplace, fabricating falsehood and using their vast looted funds to seize the media space by changing the narrative of April 11 Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

“The latest being the Nollywood scripted declaration by the embattled Rivers State APC chairman, Mr. David Ikanya, who claimed that the governorship election was rigged by the PDP in connivance with INEC and the police. We sympathise with Mr. Ikanya as he is desperately struggling to find relevance in the APC after his last minute efforts to defect to PDP were thwarted by party officials who questioned his motive under the circumstances.”

“It is a known fact that the APC is not on ground in Rivers State. All prominent and credible Rivers people are key members of the PDP. The APC is peopled by appointees of the outgoing governor Rotimi Amaechi who have been rejected by their people for their treachery and corruption.”

“We are happy that the APC in Rivers State has finally conceded defeat and are ready to embrace the electoral process by going to the Election Tribunal. This is a welcome development as the other route earlier taken by the APC, wherein the party instigated violence because of its resounding defeat was ungodly. Our lawyers will meet the APC at the Tribunal to defend the mandate Rivers people freely gave to the Governor-elect, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike ( CON ) on April 11.”

“What Ikanya did in his press conference is tantamount to what the APC did after losing the Anambra and Ekiti Governorship elections. They seized the media, lampooned the process, but were unable to prove anything up to the Supreme Court.”

“Like the eight governorship candidates who contested the April 11 elections affirmed under the platform of Coalition of Rivers Governorship Candidates ( CORGCA ), the governorship election was free, fair, credible and acceptable.”

“The Pan African Women Project under the United Nations Women Foreign Observers also declared that the governorship election in Rivers State was largely free and fair. Several other local and international observers who monitored the exercise in the 23 LGAS have similar views.”

“It is convenient for Mr Ikanya to copiously quote Prof Wole Soyinka who is a personal associate of the outgoing governor Rotimi Amaechi. On issues of Rivers State as they concern Amaechi and his political godson, the views of Prof. Soyinka can never be objective.”

“Ikanya, the failed defector to PDP took out time to cast aspersions on the person of Sir Celestine Omehia. We are not surprised as Sir Omehia ensured that Amaechi did not disrupt the April 11 governorship election in Ubima.”

“We wish to put on record the fact that the outgoing governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has been reported to law enforcement agents on the disruptive roles he played on April 11 by beating up INEC officials at Wards 12 and 13 in Obio / Akpor LGA and moving over to Omagwa to attempt to violently cart away sensitive election materials. We expect that the police to prosecute the offender when his immunity comes to an end on May 29.”

“Several APC leaders and thugs are facing criminal investigation over their failed roles to disrupt the governorship election. As electoral offenders, they should be prosecuted. We recall with trepidation, the fact that Mr. Tony Okocha, Governor Amaechi's former Chief of Staff was declared wanted on April 11 for allegedly disrupting elections and had to run to Ubima to seek refuge. He should be prosecuted.”

“The APC should accept that the Rivers people have moved on. They should accept that a failed government has been liquidated by the people who have embraced a New Rivers Vision centred on development and opportunities for the PDP.”

“Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike ( CON ), Governor-elect of Rivers State will not be distracted by the reckless noise and falsehood of Rivers APC leaders. The task ahead is enormous and he is already putting finishing touches to hit the ground running. Once again, we commend the APC for conceding defeat.”
