The attention of the Abia State Government has been drawn to a publication in a certain print media that His Excellency, Governor Theodore Orji was booed and pelted with sachet water on Tuesday, at the boundary between Abia and Imo States.

In a press briefing, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, has refuted the report, describing it as the handiwork of mischief-makers, adding that at no point was the governor molested on his way to Owerri Airport while traveling to Abuja.

“The truth of the matter is that His Excellency was appraised by people in praise. I don't know where the reporter spotted traders that he or she cited that booed and pelted my principal," Ajunwa said.

Ajunwa said that it was falsehood that the governor was “travelling to Abuja to pressurise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to have the state's controversial governorship election already declared inconclusive, work in his favour.”

Adding, Ajunwa said, “Such mischievous report can never pull my principal down or mar the victory which the PDP in Abia State has shown it was recording in the governorship election. A rerun of the election in areas INEC had declared inconclusive, it is obvious that our party – the PDP – will return home in praise.”

Ajunwa said the only incident that happened on the very day was a petroleum tanker that caught fire along the Umuopara Road. According to him, the fire incident took place after the governor's convoy had returned back to the Government House, Umuahia.

He said that it was as a result of the burning tanker that both motorists and travelers waited for the fire to go down which was eventually put off by men of the fire service.

Ajunwa reiterated that he would not want to believe that some persons have sold their conscience to the demon and are ready to mislead the general public with fictitious story. On the governor's victory as Senate-elect representing Abia Central, Ajunwa said that the state government has put the story straight.

“The Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has been issued with his certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the senator-elect for Abia Central senatorial zone,” Ajunwa said.

Governor Orji was issued with the certificate alongside two other senators-elect and eight House of Representatives members-elect who won the March 28th National Assembly polls in the state at the Headquarters of the state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by Prof. Atahiru Jega who was represented by the national commissioner of INEC, Ambassador Lawrence Nwuruku, who congratulated the winners on their electoral victory.
