FRSC warns motorists against buying used tyres

By The Citizen

The Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Badagry, Lagos State, Mr Salisu Galadunci, on Wednesday advised motorists to desist from buying used tyres for their vehicles.

Galadunci told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Badagry, that using fake or bad tyres is one of the causes of frequent accidents in the country.

'Motorists should cultivate the habit of always buying brand new tyres because this would help in preventing accidents on our roads and it is also good for the performance of the car.

'Buying of fairly used tyres is not good, because they must have expired or the tyre might not be good for the kind of roads we have in the country.

'It is important to know that tyres are made for different kinds of roads.

'Apart from purchasing new tyres, motorists should also learn how to take care of their tyres by frequently checking the pressure and gauging them regularly.

'When tyres are not properly gauged, the vehicle consumes more fuel and this also affects the performance of the car.

'So it is very important for motorists to take care of their tyres,'' he said.

The unit commander also lamented the high rate of underage driving on the Badagry/Seme expressway.

'Underage driving has been a frequent thing on the Badagry/Seme highway and the problem is becoming alarming.

'Our men have made several arrests and apart from that, we have sensitised the public about the dangers of underage driving, but we still recorded several cases of such.

'We will continue to make efforts at curbing such acts, because this is also dangerous for other road users,' he said.

Galadunci, however, advised the public to always obey traffic laws and desist from speeding. (NAN).
