I am not seeking to run away from Nigeria: Diezanni

By The Rainbow

Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, said Tuesday night, she was not seeking asylum in any part of the world, as claimed in a media report.

Alison Madueke, who is the first female minister of petroleum in Nigeria, has been the butt of attacks both in the online, mainstream and social media.

There have been various  imputation of corruption against her in the media.

Unfortunately, that appears to be the trend as most past ministers of petroleum in the country were similarly linked with corruption in the past.

Even the president-elect General Muhammad Buhari was at a time accused of mis-appropriating $2.8 billion from the commonwealth when he headed the ministry.

Madueke, who spoke through the Group Public Affairs General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, denied ever contemplating relocating from Nigeria.

An online publication reported Tuesday that the minister had been denied asylum by six countries where she had so far applied but did not mention the countries involved.

The NNPC was recently subjected to foresinc audit following allegations triggered by the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who had alleged that a monumental sum of close to $50 billion wa unaccounted for by the corporation.

Although the Federal Government said that the report of the audit cleared the NNPC of such a charge, it is yet to publish the full report to give Nigerians full impression of issues around the allegation.
