A security operation undertaken by men of the Security Joint Task Force in Rivers State has yielded a rich harvest. The gallant soldiers burst the “Barracks”, a camp that harboured armed misfits who were reportedly imported into Rivers State to boost an already handy armed militias prepared by a certain political party to rig the April 11 Governorship/House of Assembly elections. The raid, which was carried out yesterday(Thursday) at the Rumueme-Rumueprikom-Oroazi area in Port Harcourt, commenced at about 2.00pm as soldiers moved in military fashion targeting only the armed enemies. The suspected militia had, on sighting the soldiers, opened fire resulting to a gun duel at end of which one of the hoodlums was gunned down. While many of the hoodlums were arrested, others escaped, ostensibly with gunshot wounds.

Aside bursting the camp and its notorious occupants, the soldiers recovered cache of arms and ammunition as well as raps of cannabis otherwise known as marijuana. The arrested hoodlums, who were immediately whisked away to an undisclosed military facility, would expectedly undergo interrogation.

The arrested suspected thugs were quartered in a hotel owned by a former Obio/Akpor local government chairman closer to a governorship candidate.

The JTF has vowed to ensure that voters in Rivers State would not be molested by hoodlums from casting their ballots.

Governor Chibuike Amaechi has also assured voters that the Rivers State Government would ensure hitch-free elections.
